Treatment for Adolescents

A straight, healthy smile can do wonders for teenagers’ appearance, confidence and the clarity of their speech. Straight, evenly spaced teeth are easier to clean, which supports oral health. Well-aligned teeth can reduce stress, headaches and pain in the face or neck, and strain on gum tissue and the bone that supports the teeth. It can be less costly to address an orthodontic problem earlier in life than it is to correct the issues that may eventually arise if the problem is left untreated.

In today’s image-conscious society, our teenage patients appreciate straight, healthy teeth – and the alternatives Uptown Orthodontics offer. Our practice employs two main options to traditional bulky braces.

The revolutionary Damon System is a whole new way of aligning teeth and treating patients. Damon braces are an effective, efficient and discreet choice for teens. Rather than the traditional approach of removing healthy teeth or using palate expanders to accommodate conventional braces, the Damon approach avoids extractions and uses light, biologically-sensitive forces to create a beautiful, natural smile. The braces themselves are small and light; brackets can be metal or clear. The Damon approach has been shown to correct alignment significantly quicker than traditional braces, which means fewer visits for teen patients.

Another option for adolescents is Invisalign, which repositions teeth with a virtually invisible, custom-made composite aligner. No metal wires or brackets are involved. Invisalign aligners are removable and can easily go unnoticed by observers. Invisalign is also a popular choice for our adult patients.

As part of our adolescent treatment program, we will stress the importance of the teen’s full participation and cooperation to achieve the desired results as quickly as possible. He or she will be responsible for making the right dietary choices and carrying out hygiene tasks. We offer an incentive program that rewards our younger patients for a job well done!
